About The Artist Dolly Buswell
Originally from Baltimore Maryland, Dolly has made Charlottesville Virginia her home having lived there for over forty years. As a young adult, she spent her summers in Virginia, traveling in Europe and attended finishing school in Switzerland. Being an accomplished horsewoman, she raised her family in Charlottesville and has been very active with various Equestrian activities including horse shows and the Keswick and Farmington Hunt Clubs. These affiliations help contribute to her familiarity with the animals she paints.
Her family exposed her to art at a very young age and she has had a life long interest in drawing, painting and interior design. She received her first set of oil paints at the age of twelve.
Dolly is also a successful businesswoman and a well known Interior Designer. She is the owner of Unusual Interiors, Ltd. established in 1978 and has a long impressive list of clients.
Dolly incorporates the diverse elements of her life into her paintings. Each of her works shows a remarkable sense of personal style, bold color work, a distinct use of dramatic light and attention to detail. Through the process of painting, Dolly has begun looking at life in a new light.
Dolly's paintings have been shown locally and are in several private collections in Charlottesville as well as surrounding cities. Aware of the importance of giving back to the community she loves, she has donated several pieces for various private auctions including The University of Virginia Bayley Art Museum. He work has also been seen at The McGuffy Art Center in Charlottesville.
Dolly continues to work with artists Sandra Massie Forbush and Renee Balfour, whom have contributed significant influence on her style. She is developing an extensive portfolio from which clients may choose. This portfolio represents pieces in the traditional old masters style, using the contrast of dark background against warmly and dramatically lit subjects as well as a more informal and loose painting style using brighter colors. She is accomplished in landscapes, still life, and portraits. Her talent allows her to paint many subject matters.
